Friendship Group meets with the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr Talat Xhaferi

The interlocutors emphasised good bilateral relations between the two countries at all levels, and stressed that Montenegro and the Republic of Macedonia could serve as an example to the region as countries with no open issues, with full understanding and appreciation.

Chair of the Friendship Group with the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Vice-President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Genci Nimanbegu, expressed institutional and personal gratitude to the delegation of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, noting that strategic integration goals could not be achieved without an active role in regional cooperation and reflection on foreign policy in a regional context. Strengthening the rule of law, democracy and institutions of the system are a common path for all Western Balkan countries and on this path we need to share our experiences and act together to achieve full integration, Vice-President Nimanbegu said.

Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr Talat Xhaferi, thanked for the words of welcome and stressed he shared the opinion of the host of the meeting that between the two countries there existed traditionally good and friendly relations that were being upgraded on a daily basis. Speaker Xhaferi added that the two countries could learn a lot from mutual experiences, stressing that strengthening communication must be intensified in order to strengthen regional cooperation as a key factor for the peace and stability of the chronically unstable Balkans.

Interlocutors agreed that in the upcoming period it was important to further work on the establishment of even better economic and commercial relations between the two countries, especially with regard to cooperation in the field of tourism, as well as the improvement of the transport infrastructure between the two countries. In addition, they expressed mutual satisfaction with the establishment of Friendship Groups, assessing that this parliamentary form represented one of the cornerstones of parliamentary cooperation, as well as the overall relations of the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by members of the Friendship Group with the Assembly of Macedonia, MPs Mr Mirsad Murić, Ms Branka Tanasijević and Ms Maja Bakrač, while the Macedonian delegation, beside the Speaker Xhaferi, was composed of Members of the Sobranie, Mr Dzevad Ademi and Mr Maksim Dimitrievski.
