In his communication with President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, President of the European Parliament Mr David Maria Sassoli emphasises that the European Parliament's Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group (DEG), at its meeting last month, confirmed as a priority election observation in Montenegro. The arrival of the Mission will be considered in the upcoming period, in cooperation with the ODIHR, based on the analysis of the epidemiological situation due to the prevalence of Covid-19 throughout Europe.
While congratulating Montenegro on its exceptional success in fighting coronavirus, the EP President stresses that the crisis has proven EU’s strong commitment to and solidarity with Montenegro, and also Montenegro's strong commitment to the EU.
Please rest assured that the European Parliament stands shoulder to shoulder with Montenegro in facing the current and future challenges, including the post-pandemic economic and social recovery and its efforts to ensure free and fair conditions for the upcoming parliamentary elections - say, inter alia, letters of President of the European Parliament Mr David Maria Sassoli addressed to President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović.
To remind, the President of the Parliament of Montenegro invited European officials and their organisations to actively involve, as it was the case so far, in observing the upcoming electoral process in Montenegro. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe was the first one to form a delegation of 22 members for monitoring the upcoming elections, while the ODIHR’s Needs Assessment Mission is paying a visit to our country this week.
