Chairperson of the Constitutional Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Miodrag Vuković participated in the international conference “Peace and Democratic Multilateralism” organised by the European Centre for Peace and Development (ECPD) in Belgrade.
This year’s conference was dedicated to the current and specific topic of multilateralism, within which discussions were led on the key topics for the future of peace and development, as well as those regarding democratic processes as inevitable factors for stability of the SEE region, EU and beyond.
Within the third panel debate of the conference titled “UN priorities in the new era”, Chairperson of the Constitutional Committee Mr Miodrag Vuković had a presentation on the topic: “Multilateralism - Montenegro’s experience”. In his presentation, Mr Vuković pointed out the need to preserve the multilateral communication which marked the global level crisis, and, at the same time, to strengthen multilateral structures such as the European Union, NATO, and the United Nations.
Multilateralism is high among the foreign policy priorities of Montenegro. Additionally, as such, in the broadest sense, it is also achieved through full compatibility with the Euro Atlantic and regional components of Montenegro’s foreign policy priorities, strengthening the values upon which modern international relations are based, pointed out Mr Vuković.
The speakers in the conference included, among others, the following: Mr Federico Mayor, President of the ECPD Council; Mr Erhard Busek, Former Vice-Chancellor of Austria and Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe; Ms Wided Bouchamaoui, 2015 Nobel Peace Prize winner, and numerous distinguished scientists, politicians, representatives of the international organisations and diplomatic missions from Europe, USA, Canada, Japan, China, India, and Australia.
The conclusions of the conference will be submitted to the UN Secretary General Mr António Guterres.
