The Regional Round Table “The role of parliaments of the Western Balkans in oversight over measures for prevention and fight against non-violent forms of extremism” will take place in Prishtina, Kosovo, on 30 November 2016, organised by the Centre for Security, Development and the Rule of Law (DCAF) from Geneva, and on this occasion the Parliament of Montenegro will be represented by MP Mr Luigj Lubo Shkrela.
The Regional Round Table “The role of parliaments of the Western Balkans in oversight over measures for prevention and fight against non-violent forms of extremism” will gather representatives of parliamentary committees in the region, responsible for issues of defence and security.
The Round Table will primarily be dedicated to consideration of the current state of affairs in the subject field in the countries of the Western Balkans, and to finding the most effective solutions from the scope of parliamentary work, which are aimed at the strengthening of institutions and the rule of law in the context of providing a platform for exchange of experiences and good practice in that respect.
Speeches of experts from the fields of intelligence, human rights, data protection, as well as experts from the fields of prevention and repression of violent extremism will contribute to the course of the subject discussion.
In the context of the above noted, the DCAF is increasing the regional parliamentary dialogue and exchange of information on the said topic, especially respecting its significance for the Western Balkans region, as well as the need for effective prevention and repression of violent extremism through adaptation of legislative frameworks, determination of responsibility of responsible bodies and finding of mechanisms for effective parliamentary oversight and provision of efficient response on the subject.
