Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro participates in the Interparliamentary Conference in Sofia

Topic of the Conference: “Transforming the Western Balkans region - a parliamentary perspective on the role and the future of EU accession process”

The delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro consisting of MPs: Mr Adrijan Vuksanović, Mr Bogdan Fatić, Mr Danijel Živković, and Mr Milun Zogović took part in the Interparliamentary Conference, organised by the European Parliament and the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Interparliamentary Conference, inter alia, discussed the EU-Western Balkans Summit, the Sofia Priority Agenda, the Berlin Process, all in the context of continuing support for the accession process of the WB countries. Also, another panel of the conference was dedicated to the role national parliaments and the European Parliament in strengthening the European perspective of the Western Balkans. 

Mr Adrijan Vuksanović, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration, spoke within this panel. He said that Montenegro has already showed values of European family of nations, citing it as a good example of the state which preserved peace and multi-ethnic harmony as well as good relations with neighbours.
Also, MP Vuković stressed that the enlargement policy was the best response to the EU’s present crises. He said that the process of consolidation was crucial in this regard, stressing that it was necessary to admit the Western Balkans countries to the European Union as soon as possible. 

This conference, which is organised by the European Parliament in cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, which will also host it, is part of the 2018 European Parliament Support Programme for the parliaments of pre-accession countries.
