Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro consisting of parliamentarians Mr Filip Vuković and Mr Aleksandar Damjanović took part in the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum, held on 19 February, in the European Parliament, Brussels. In addition, the delegation took part in the Third SEE Parliamentary Forum on Energy Efficiency and Climate, organised by the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ) with the support of the GIZ Open Regional Fund for SEE- Energy Efficiency.
During the Forum, organised ahead of the meeting of the Parliamentary Plenum, MPs of national parliaments of the Contracting Parties of the Energy Community and representatives of political studies schools from six SEE countries learned about "Draft report on the future of energy efficiency in the Energy Community after the adoption of the EU’s Clean Energy Package", prepared and presented by Mr Aleksandar Damjanović, Montenegrin MP:
The meeting adopted the Joint Statement, by which the Plenum, among other things, welcomes the reopening of the negotiations on amendments to the Treaty establishing the Energy Community, as well as the ongoing process of including the elements of the Clean Energy Package in the Energy Community's legal framework, but also emphasises the role that parliaments may have not only in establishing a favourable legislative framework, but also in leading the way to improve energy efficiency.
At the end of the meeting, and after the consideration of amendments submitted by Mr Damjanović and MPs from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and bearing in mind the discussion from the meeting held in Skopje, members of the Parliamentary Plenum have adopted the Joint Report on the Promotion of Renewable Energy in the Energy Community.
