Day one of the Interparliamentary Conference in Brussels ends

Two-day conference organised by the European Parliament was opened by Mr Alojz Peterle, Chairperson of the EU-former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee and member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, who informed the parliamentarians about the topics to be discussed in the following days.

Mr Johanes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, spoke about “Local and Regional Authorities in the enlargement region and the EU regional policy”, pointing out to key tasks that should be implemented in order to speed up the accession process.    

Mr Jean-Luc Vanraes, member of the EU Committee of the Regions, spoke on the topic “Creating public policies and implementation of the European acquis from the perspective of local and regional authorities”.

The next session was devoted to strengthening the role of the local and regional authorities in the EU enlargement process, and Mr Jens Nilsson, member of the EU Committee on Regional Development, spoke on this topic.

Ms Terry Reintke, member of the EU Committee on Regional Development, spoke about support of the European Parliament aimed at strengthening institutional and administrative capacities at the local and regional level.

Mr Nikola Dobroslavić, member of the EU Committee of the Regions, informed the participants about the role of this Committee with the aim of increasing regional cooperation.

In addition, the participants had an opportunity to actively participate in discussions on the said topics.

MPs Mr Miloš Nikolić, member of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration, and Mr Adrijan Vuksanović, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration are attending the Conference on behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro.
