Vice President Nimanbegu receives member of the National Assembly of the French Parliament Mr Frédéric Petit

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro and Head of the Friendship Group with France Mr Genci Nimanbegu today has met with member of the National Assembly of the French Parliament Mr Frédéric Petit, who is staying in Montenegro within his official visit to the countries of the Balkans.

While informing his guest on the progress in the process of the EU integration, Mr Nimanbegu said that the reforms in Montenegro, although difficult and demanding, were being implemented in a good quality manner, and that Montenegro was steadily progressing towards its membership in the Union. He also said that the current strengthening of demagogic and right-wing powers and discourse may be overcome with the stronger economic support of the Union to the countries of the Western Balkans which would focus the attention and energy on development and put negative trends aside.

Bilaterally, there is still great room for improvement of cooperation between Montenegro and France, and it is particularly necessary to work on attracting a larger number of the French investors, said Mr Nimanbegu.

MP Petit, as a representative of the French immigrant community from 16 countries of Central and East Europe, including Montenegro, voiced his pleasure regarding his meeting with Head of the Friendship Group with the Parliament of France in the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Genci Nimanbegu and showed interest in strengthening the good relations between the two countries to which he would fully contribute from his position.

Mr Petit also said that the chance for new development and revitalisation of Europe was precisely in the Balkans and integration of the countries in the region.

During their meeting, Mr Nimanbegu and Mr Petit discussed the current political situation in Montenegro and France, as well as movements within the European Union. At the meeting they also discussed the election system in France with special focus on administering elections in 11 constituencies in which the French diaspora votes for their representatives in the Parliament.
