Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Branimir Gvozdenović has met today with head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Mr Aivo Orav.
The occasion for the holding of the meeting was the adoption of the Decision on the formation of the Committee on further reform of electoral and other legislation, which was adopted last night by the Parliament of Montenegro, as the first item of the agenda of the Third Sitting of the Second Ordinary (Autumn) Session, with 56 votes.
Vice President Mr Branimir Gvozdenović emphasised that the Democratic Party of Socialists, as a state-making party, has always been ready for a continuous optimisation of the set of laws regulating election processes, in order to further improve the democratic environment in which the citizens exercise their electoral will. That is why, on multiple occasions, the Democratic Party of Socialists had initiatives in the Parliament of Montenegro on the forming of a working body for further reform of electoral legislation. He also voiced his satisfaction about the adoption of the Decision, which included all proposals and suggestions submitted, in various ways, to the Parliament of Montenegro and to the DPS as the initiator.
Vice President Gvozdenović invited all political parties represented in the Parliament of Montenegro to be actively involved in the Committee’s work, because, apart from those parties having responsibility towards their voters and the citizens, they also have responsibility toward the EU and international organisations, bearing in mind that, as he emphasised, the elements supported or proposed by the EU and international organisations were included in the Decision adopted by the Parliament last night.
- As far as the DPS is concerned, the doors are wide open to everyone, in this or some future moment, concluded Mr Gvozdenović.
Ambassador Orav welcomed the establishment of the temporary parliamentary committee, stressing it has an ambitious agenda ahead that is important for Montenegro's EU path. He said that the scope of work of the temporary parliamentary committee is based on the proposal made by two opposition parties in June, and emphasised the importance of Commissioner Hahn's message "encouraging all parliamentary parties to take active and constructive part in the work of this parliamentary body, and keep its important tasks in focus, with a view to bringing Montenegro closer to the European Union".
