Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Genci Nimanbegu, met today with H.E. Ms Maryse Daviet, the Ambasador, Head of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, regarding reforms of electoral legislation and the creation of a more favorable climate for elections in Montenegro.
Vice President Nimanbegu informed the Ambassador Daviet about the reform of electoral legislation, and in relation to this about the already established Working Group in the Parliament of Montenegro. The Working Group, voted for yesterday in the Parliament, has already gotten today its 12 out of 14 members, due to non-attendance of representatives of the Democrats and the Special MP group.
He predicts that there is going to be a lot of work, and expects that the results of the Group's work will be benefitial to increasing confidence of all actors in the electoral law. One of the most important tasks is the adoption of all OSCE/ODIHR recommendations from 2016 and 2018.
Special attention was paid to the representation of minorities and women in the Parliament. The Vice President used the opportunity to express his view regarding current legal solution that did not go in favour of minorities - especially Albanian minority, which has been left without the special constituency according to the Law from 2014, which practically changed the affirmative action into its opposite.
Ambassador Daviet expressed OSCE's readiness to assist Montenegro in the upcoming reform of electoral legislation.
