President Brajović with MEPs on the European agenda and Montenegro’s reform processes

President Brajović today spoke with Mr David Martin, Member of the European Parliament and Co-Chair of Delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC), on numerous internal and issues from the European agenda of Montenegro. The interlocutors emphasised the importance of SAPC, as the most significant cooperation mechanism between the European Parliament and Parliament of Montenegro.

President Brajović stressed that Montenegro remained devoted to the idea of EU membership, firmly committed to pursuing its reforms, in order to finalise the accession negotiations in a good manner and thus become the first next member of the EU. He stressed that regatta principle was of crucial importance, i.e. the merit-based evaluation for each state, on the basis of their individual achievements and ability to meet the membership criteria. The interlocutors agreed that the results of the parliamentary elections in Montenegro, which were positively assessed by the OSCE/ODIHR and all other international officials, could not be contested, however the next task is to adopt the recommendations from the Report of the Monitoring Mission. President Brajovic reiterated the position he shares with all the European organisations that the opposition should fight in the parliament for their political ideas for which the citizens have chosen them. Members of the SAPC parliamentary delegation - Vice President Mr Branimir Gvozdenović and MP Ms Daliborka Pejović took part in the conversation with Mr Davin Martin.

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today informed a delegation of the European Parliament, led by EP Vice President Mr Ryszard Czarnecki, about ongoing and forthcoming parliamentary activities at both domestic and international level, as well as about other factors significant for the reform and integration processes of our country. MEPs used the meeting with President Brajović to learn more about the political and economic developments in Montenegro, and regional cooperation. This meeting was also attended by Mr Željko Aprcović, Chairperson of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration, and Mr Adrijan Vuksanović, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration.

MEPs are participating in inter-parliamentary conference  “Independent and Modern Public Administration in the EU and in Enlargement Countries”, organised by the EU Pre-Accession Actions Unit in cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro and Regional School of Public Administration (ReSPA), which will take place in Danilovgrad on September 29 .
