Mr Brajović and Mr János: Consent that EU candidates should be evaluated by their individual merits

During the talk with President of the Republic of Hungary Mr János Áder, President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović said that this visit was a continuation of the intensive political dialogue, contributing to strengthening of traditionally friendly relations of our two countries.

Mr Brajović stressed the importance of further strengthening of parliamentary cooperation, both through activities of parliamentary committees and friendship groups, assessing that there was a potential for improving bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and Hungary in a range of field of mutual interest, with a special focus on the field of economy.  

President Brajović thanked for the continuous support of Hungary in the Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro, as well as for their political and expert assistance on our European path.

President Ader emphasised that Hungary strongly advocated for further enlargement of the European Union both bilaterally as well as through its participation in the Visegrad Group, being the current chair of it. He believes that Montenegro can serve as an example in the region, since it is a stable state and a frontrunner in the process of European integration. The President of Hungary stressed the need to evaluate the individual performance of each candidate country and the need to set clear goals and deadlines within the negotiation process.

The meeting with Hungarian President was attended by vice presidents of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Branimir Gvozdenović and Mr Genci Nimanbegu.
