President of Bulgaria: Montenegro is the best example for the Western Balkans countries

  • With its efforts, necessary reform processes, and implementation of standards, Montenegro is the example for the Western Balkans countries, President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr Rumen Radev said at the meeting with President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović.

He stressed that history of diplomatic relations of the two countries, lasting for 120, would gain even greater significance during the upcoming Bulgarian presidency of the European Union. Mr Radev emphasised the expectation that excellent and intensive political relations would be used for much better economic relations, because the current economic exchange of 15 million euros is significantly below the possibilities of the two countries.

  • We will be working on this, we will intensify our investment programs, as well as programs in the field of security, tourism, education, science and culture.

President Radev invited President of Montenegro Mr Filip Vujanović to be the first president of some country visiting Bulgaria during its presidency of the EU, which, as he pointed out, is another proof of visible support and appreciation of Montenegro by this friendly country.

Summing up the results of the first official visit to Bulgaria's Assembly by a President of the Parliament, since the restoration of Montenegro's independence, President Ivan Brajović emphasised that all the preconditions for developing stronger economic relations were fulfilled. When it comes to Bulgarian presidency of the EU, Mr Brajović said that Montenegro's leadership role in the process of European integration was highlighted at all meetings with Bulgarian officials.

  • At every step, there was hospitality and the desire to show through the exchange of good and bad experiences which way Montenegro should continue, and the intensity of our relations is the best confirmation of the friendship of the two countries.

During the day, meetings were held with the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds and the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Montenegro. Speaking of the reform processes Mr Kristian Vigenin, Chairperson of the Committee and former Bulgarian MFA, stressed that Bulgaria still had a lot of work in the field of justice, regardless of its membership in the EU, which was the best proof that reforms did not end with accession to the European community of the people.

Aside from President Braović, the delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro is composed of members of MNE- Bulgaria parliamentary friendship group: Mr Tarzan Milošević, as the Head of the Group, and Mr Andrija Popović and Mr Mihailo Anđušić, as members.
