- Commitment to youth education, development of leadership skills, responsible media relation, as well as legal regulation providing for the sanctioning of hate speech and war rhetoric are the best prevention tools in fighting extremism of any kind - said President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović in his conversation with United Nations Under Secretary and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide Mr Adama Dieng.
President Brajović pointed out that Montenegro fostered values and standards contained in the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and international legal documents on human rights, followed by the adoption and application of corresponding laws, strategies and other documents.
Special Adviser Dieng highlighted Montenegro as an island of stability in the region, which should continue to undertake all necessary steps in order to encourage its neighbourhood to persevere in democratic reforms. The Parliament of Montenegro, representing the will of all its citizens, has a special role in this.
At the meeting they also discussed the role of women in democratisation of a society, fight against violence against women, legal solutions stimulating active participation of women in political life, on which Montenegro was working with dedication. Bearing in mind the commitment of the Parliament of Montenegro to the strengthening of the legislative framework and other forms of promotion of women’s rights, Special Adviser Dieng invited Mr Brajović to address the United Nations at the event dedicated to Prevention of Violence against Women.
