New meetings of President of the Parliament within the National Prayer Breakfast

Within the 66th National Prayer Breakfast, President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović addressed the attendees at the event dedicated to the SEE countries, organised by representative Mr Robert Aderholt. Voicing his gratitude for the help that the USA had given to Montenegro on its path towards NATO membership, President Brajović expressed willingness of our country to help all Western Balkans countries, in the spirit of good neighbourly relations and friendly cooperation, and to share its experiences from the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Namely, the 66th National Prayer Breakfast, which is traditionally being held in Washington with the participation of the President of the United States, this year as well has gathered a large number of officials from the US and world. This year’s National Prayer Breakfast was marked with reminders of the founder of this event Mr Doug Hall who passed away last year.

In his speech, President of the USA Mr Donald Trump pointed out the close relation between the faith in God, freedom and the American way of life. “When Americans are able to live by their convictions, to speak openly of their faith, and to teach their children what is right, our families thrive, our communities flourish, and our nation can achieve anything at all.” - said, among other things, President Trump.

During the separate meetings with senator Mr Ben Cardin and the executive vice president of the Atlantic Council Mr Damon Wilson, President Brajović pointed out that Montenegro’s NATO membership was the greatest foreign policy success of our country which also protected and strengthened all achievements of the referendum on independence and was vital for the stability of Montenegro and the security of its citizens. Montenegro is proud of its inter-ethnic and inter-faith harmony, its relation towards minorities and its policy of good neighbourly relations. The EU should follow the NATO’s example and promote more strongly the enlargement policy, awarding those who had gone the furthest on the path towards the European integration - said President Brajović.

During the conversation, they especially pointed out the necessity of significant increase in the scope of American investments in our country.

Senator Cardin presented the report of the Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Putin’s asymmetrical assault on democracy in Russia and Europe, in which Montenegro was also mentioned. They pointed out their satisfaction with the reforms implemented by Montenegro, and they emphasised that, since its independence, our country had been pursuing a consistent policy committed to the Euro-Atlantic values and united Europe, which needed to be constantly emphasised and awarded.

Executive vice president of the Atlantic Council Mr Damon Wilson said that he considered the presence of the President of the Montenegrin Parliament at the National Prayer Breakfast extremely significant, because in that manner Montenegro demonstrated its relationship with the American allies. It is in the best interest of both countries to foster permanent alliance. In that context, he welcomed the willingness of Montenegro to continue to be a stable and reliable partner.

Within his visit to the USA, President Brajović gave an interview to the Voice of America.
