Mr Brajović speaks with Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bulgarian National Assembly

As a country of the Western Balkans and a member of the European Union, Bulgaria particularly understands the importance of the European perspective of Montenegro and the region, which is, at the same time, in the focus of the ongoing Bulgarian Presidency of the EU - this is a conclusion of today’s meeting of President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović with the delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, headed by the Chairperson of the Committee Ms Dzhema Grozdanova.

The interlocutors agreed that Montenegro and Bulgaria nourished friendly relations with no open issues, while intensive parliamentary cooperation was a part of overall political activities in the interest of the common perspective of the two countries and the entire region.

The Chairperson of the Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Committee emphasised that each of the candidate countries for EU membership should be treated individually, both when it comes to the current negotiating status and achievements, and realistic integration agenda.

Accordingly, the expectation is that Montenegro should be the first next member of the Union, therefore it should continue with the implementation of the necessary reforms, in line with internal consensus and with the participation of the majority of elected representatives - Ms Grozdanova said, and underlined that the EU had no positive opinion the fact that a part of the Montenegrin opposition didn’t participate in the parliamentary work.

Among other things, President Brajović stressed that Montenegro appreciated the previous friendly support of Bulgaria in its Euro-Atlantic integration, while a strong diplomatic activity showed that Bulgaria's presidency of the EU valued the responsible foreign policy of our country and advocated for the entry of all the countries in the region into the European people's community.
