Switzerland ready to intensify co-operation with Montenegro

President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, said today after meeting with the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation Mr Dominique de Buman, that the conversation was very straighforward and concrete, and that many issues have been considered under the competence of the parliaments, as well as the possibilities of intensified cooperation in the field of economy, with the emphasis on the development of tourism and agriculture, especially in the north of Montenegro.

- Switzerland is a desirable partner for every country in the world, even for Montenegro. With Orascom, this country has been very present in Montenegro, and the interest in new investments has been very joyous. We quickly and easily agreed to intensify the cooperation of our parliaments as the precursory of even better and more intensive cooperation between our countries – Mr Brajović said.

The President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation said:

- Today we have discussed the relations between our two countries, which have a lot in common. They are two small, stable countries with strong identities. We talked about strengthening cooperation, because there has been a desire to strengthen relations in many areas, both when it came to the diplomatic agenda and the new investments of Switzerland in Montenegro - de Buman stated.

During the meeting with Mr Thomas Guerber, Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), President Brajović stressed the importance of cooperation with expert organisations such as DCAF and thanked for the support in numerous trainings and expert assistance in legislation, primarily through cooperation with the Parliament's Security and Defence Committee.

Director of the DCAF – the organisation the cooperation with which has long existed, expressed admiration for the results achieved by Montenegro in recent years:

- We discussed current challenges of your country, especially in the field of work and oversight role of the Parliament. DCAF is impressed with the results achieved by Montenegro in recent years. We discussed not only the possibilities of continuing and strengthening cooperation in the multilateral context, but also bilateral. I consider that DCAF, as well as Montenegro, can still gain by continuing with the path we have crossed together so far.

Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) is an international organisation established in 2000, with the aim of providing support to good governance and reform of the security sector in the countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and America. DCAF is committed to strategic planning, project management and understanding of the political context of security sector reform.
