President of the Parliament receives Ambassador of Slovakia to Montenegro

Slovak presidency of the European Union was important for Montenegro

 

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today received, upon his request, Ambassador of Slovakia to Montenegro Mr Roman Hloben, who stressed the importance of leading the state parliament in the forthcoming key period of Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro. The interlocutors emphasised a very important role of Slovakia in respect of Montenegro, which presided of the European Union in the second half of 2016, as well as proved friendship of the two countries.

- Citizens of Montenegro remember with special appreciation unambiguous good intentions and commitment of Slovakia in challenging period of restoration of our country’s independence.  Also, the current support in the opening of negotiating chapters is very significant, President Brajović reminded. 

He informed the Ambassador of Slovakia that the Montenegrin Parliament would have to work intensively on numerous legal acts which could not be discussed during the pre-election campaign.

Ambassador Hloben reiterated a clear position of Slovakia that parliamentary dialogue was the only legitimate way of political fight in democracy, which had been confirmed by the citizens of Montenegro, with 73.3 turnout at the elections.  

The meeting was an opportunity for Ambassador Hloben to communicate congratulations of Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Mr Andrej Dank and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Miroslav Lajčak to newly-elected President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović. Ambassador also announced establishment of the parliamentary friendship group of Slovakia and Montenegro.

President Brajović sent an invitation to Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia to visit Montenegro, for the first time since regaining its independence
