President of the Parliament receives Prime Minister of Romania

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović talked with Prime Minister of Romania Ms Vasilica - Viorica Dăncilă, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.

President Brajović emphasised that the first visit at that level was a strong confirmation of the friendship of the two countries, both of which this year mark a significant jubilee - the 140th anniversary of the Berlin Congress.

During their conversation, they jointly noted that more intensive parliamentary cooperation, at the level of friendship groups and working bodies, as well as the development of partnership relations within NATO, stimulated the strengthening of the overall relations, which in the end should result in stronger economic cooperation, especially in the field of tourism and energy.

 - Redefining relations within the EU and the enlargement are processes that need to take place simultaneously. We are pleased to have had a series of presidencies of the EU Council by the countries familiar with the situation in the Western Balkans, which understand the significance of the EU membership for all the countries in the region. For Montenegro, it is especially important that the candidates be evaluated solely based on their individual merit, pointed out the President of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The Prime Minister of Romania, confirming that the enlargement would be high on the agenda of their presidency of the EU Council, emphasised her country's willingness to strongly and decisively support Montenegro on its European path.

- Romania is a friendly country for which the stability of the Western Balkans is important, and we particularly appreciate the fact that Montenegro is a stability factor and a country that has made the most significant steps forward on its path of the EU integration,  pointed out the Romanian Prime Minister.

In the context of strengthening parliamentary cooperation, Prime Minister Dăncilă passed on to President Brajović an invitation to visit Romania, which was extended to him by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament.
