Relations of our states are such that Hungary sees Montenegro as its honourable neighbour - Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary Mr László Kövér, who is paying a visit to our country upon the invitation of the President of the Parliament Mr Ivan Brajović, said in his press statement today.
At the meeting of the two delegations, Speaker Kövér reiterated the position of the Hungarian officials that Montenegro could be admitted to the EU „already tomorrow and without problems“. Mr Kövér thinks that regatta principle is the only just and politically practical solution, and a good indicator of perspective to other Western Balkans countries. On the road to the EU, Hungary will continue to support Montenegro, which has experienced strong economic development over the last few years for the benefit of its citizens, the Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly said at the meeting. He reminded that the trade in goods has increased by 25% in the last five months, while new direct flights between Budapest and Podgorica contributed to more intensive tourism development.
President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović said that outstanding political relations between Montenegro and Hungary, which aim to strengthen economic cooperation in the interests of citizens, can serve as an example. Mr Brajović reminded that Hungary was the second country with the most direct foreign investments in Montenegro in this year, therefore parliaments should help and promote economic co-operation within their jurisdiction. By the establishment of parliamentary friendship groups the basis for strengthening parliamentary cooperation has been created, and joint meetings of the committees for international relations, economy and tourism are planned, the President of the Parliament announced. Once again he thanked for the unconditional support of Hungary to Montenegro’s membership in NATO and the EU.
Mr Branimir Gvozdenović, Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro and Chair of the Montenegro - Hungary parliamentary Friendship Group, also took part in the meeting.
