President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today in Cetinje spoke with President of the Republic of North Macedonia’s Assembly Mr Talat Xhaferi, who attended discussion and voting of Montenegrin parliamentarians on the Proposal for the Law on Ratification of the Protocol of the North Atlantic Treaty for the Accession of the Republic of North Macedonia.
During the meeting, the President of the Parliament emphasised the importance of North Macedonia's path and expressed pleasure that Montenegro showed once again, by voting for Law, unequivocal support to the Macedonian Euro-Atlantic future.
The President of the Republic of North Macedonia’s Assembly voiced pleasure with the opportunity to attend the discussion and voting for the Law, which made the North Macedonia a step closer to NATO membership.
The interlocutors emphasised the significance of the Prespa Agreement and North-Atlantic path of North Macedonia for strengthening good neighbourly cooperation and regional stability. They assessed that Montenegro and North Macedonia should work on strengthening economic cooperation, which should follow the existing excellent political relations, among which parliamentary cooperation takes a prominent place.
The President of the Parliament underlined today in his parliamentary speech that Montenegro, as a NATO member, today for the first time in its history, 13 years since renewal of its independence, has had an opportunity to vote on the proposal for admittance of a new state to the Alliance. Mr Brajović said that benefits of NATO membership existed in Montenegro even now, whereby its momentum will be more visible in the coming years.
