President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović and Deputy Leader of the House of Lords and Minister of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Mr Frederick Richard Penn Curzon, the 7th Earl Howe agreed that the partnership and cooperation within NATO represented a strong indicator of the strength of bilateral relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, the established friendship groups between the Parliament of Montenegro and the House of Commons of the UK Parliament are a testament to mutual readiness for the strengthening of parliamentary cooperation and relations of the two countries. The interlocutors agreed on the significance of effective legislation, while efforts of all actors on the political stage are significant for its implementation. President Brajović highlighted, among other things, the continuously good cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and further openness of the Parliament to joint projects.
The President of the Parliament voiced his expectation that, in the upcoming period as well, Montenegro would continue to receive the support of its European partners for its reform efforts and promotion of values of the western democracies.
During the meeting, they also mentioned security and political developments in the countries of the region.
The meeting was also attended by Chairperson of the Committee on Security and Defence, MP Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić.
