Parliamentary delegation takes part in the 141st IPU Assembly in Belgrade

Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro, headed by its President Mr Ivan Brajović, is taking part in the 141st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Belgrade. 

Prior to the official opening of the Conference, President Brajović met her with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ms Maja Gojković. On this occasion, President Brajović emphasised Montenegro's commitment to further developing of good neighbourly relations with the Republic of Serbia, based on real political and economic interests and geographical closeness. As a leader in the European integration process, Montenegro supports Serbia's progress on that path and is ready to be a constructive partner in the coming period, among other things, by sharing its experience and knowledge, President Brajović said. He congratulated Speaker Gojković on re-organising the IPU session in Belgrade after 56 years, which is important for the entire region.

President Gojković emphasised the importance of continuity of parliamentary cooperation, which provides an additional impetus for mutual understanding and development of good neighbourly relations.

The interlocutors agreed that the integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU has no alternative, and that strengthening the security and safety of the region is a key precondition for further progress in the integration process.  

In a meeting with President of the Argentinian Senate Mr Federico Pinedo, President Brajović expressed satisfaction with the traditionally good and friendly relations between Montenegro and Argentina, dating back to 1904 when Montenegro appointed the first Honorary Consul in Buenos Aires. The two presidents highlighted the positive role and contribution of Montenegrin expatriates in strengthening ties between the two countries, as well as activities in the field of education and culture. President Brajović thanked for Argentina's support in preserving the cultural identity of Montenegrin expatriates.

The President of the Argentinian Senate stressed that a parliamentary friendship group with Montenegro was formed in the Argentine Senate in May 2017 and that the intention is to intensify political contacts between the two countries in the coming period. He emphasised that this meeting provides a good basis for specifying the area of economic cooperation and further integration of the two countries.

The President of the Parliament of Montenegro also met Ms Amal Al Qubaisi, President of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates. On this occasion, the President stressed the importance that Montenegro attaches to developing friendly and close relations with the UAE and expressed satisfaction with the level of political dialogue achieved, recalling that Montenegro and the Emirates in 2018 marked ten years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

-  Montenegro especially appreciates the contribution of the United Arab Emirates to the development and implementation of valuable infrastructure projects, which further affirm our country as a safe and attractive investment destination. Good examples of common economic relations may be Porto Montenegro and Capital Plaza, and we expect that specific cooperation will continue in the fields of tourism, culture, science, education, sports and youth - President Brajović said.

At today’s IPU Assembly, MPs from over 140 countries are taking part, with the attendance of more than 70 speakers from all over the world. Parliament of Montenegro’s delegation is composed of MPs Mr Suad Numanović, Ms Jovanka Laličić and Mr Miloš Nikolić.
