President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today met Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mr Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
President Brajović said that the development of friendly relations between Montenegro and Turkey is greatly contributed by the developed parliamentary diplomacy, emphasising that cooperation in many areas is based on the principle of mutual benefit, but also mutual respect. President Brajović emphasised that his forthcoming official visit to the Republic of Turkey would be an opportunity for specifying cooperation models between the two parliaments and announced that he would be pleased to attend the solemn celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, at the invitation of Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop.
Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that Turkey saw Montenegro as an important ally. He recalled that Turkey supported Montenegro at all stages of NATO accession, as Montenegro is a factor of stability and peace in the region. Bearing in mind excellent political relations, Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasised the importance of cooperation between the two parliaments, especially through the work of friendship groups and parliamentary working bodies, which contribute to further strengthening the overall relations. He expressed confidence that Croatia's presidency, as well as the next three EU presidencies, will contribute to accelerating the integration of the Western Balkans.
The interlocutors agreed that high-level visits and contacts were maintained at a satisfactory pace, and that their intensification would contribute to better mutual understanding and stimulate further development of relations, both political and economic.
