President of the Parliament meets the Italian Minister of Defence

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today has hosted Minister of Defence of the Italian Republic Mr Lorenzo Guerini, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.

In his conversation with the Minister of Defence, who is at the same time an experienced parliamentarian, President Brajović expressed pleasure with the high level of the overall relations between Montenegro and the Italian Republic, whereby parliamentary cooperation with the Senate and House of Representatives occupied a significant place. In addition to regular meetings at the highest level, the cooperation of parliamentary working bodies on the European path of our country was emphasised, as well as the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in the shared visions of the two countries.

President Brajović assessed the NATO partnership as very important, as well as Italy's open and concrete support to Montenegro’s integration process.

Italian Minister of Defence Mr Guerini expressed satisfaction with being the first representative of the Government of the Republic of Italy to visit Montenegro and confirm the friendship of the two countries. He emphasised that Italy greatly appreciated our country's role in NATO and its contribution to regional stability, recognising everything that Montenegro has done on its path to the European Union.

The meeting discussed economic cooperation as well as the challenges facing the two countries, the region and the European Union.

The interlocutors acknowledged that false news and misinformation, which by their influence on the rise of populism and even the electoral processes, were a danger to democratic countries, should not be taken lightly, to which NATO attaches great importance.

The meeting with Italian Minister of Defence was also attended by Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Genci Nimanbegu.
