Deputies to the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro swear in

Deputies to the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro Ms Nerma Dobardžić and Ms Snežana Armenko today have sworn in before the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivanom Brajovićem.

President Brajović pointed out the significance of the functioning of the institution of the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms in its full composition and voiced his conviction that the deputies, respecting international standards and best practice, with their transparent work would contribute to a higher degree of respect and promotion of human rights and freedoms.

He reminded that Montenegrin society had great expectations from this institution and emphasised that the Parliament was obliged to help the institution of Ombudsman so it could be autonomous and independent.

“It is our task to work in a legal, professional and best possible manner and thus gain the confidence of citizens”, said President Brajović.

He also referenced the recently adopted Law on Life Partnership of Same-Sex Partners and emphasised that the degree of respect for human rights was not ideal in any society, but that the adoption of this law represented a big step forward for the entire Montenegrin society and the quality of human rights.

Deputy to the  Montenegrin Ombudsman Ms Snežana Mijušković deemed the support of the Parliament very significant, emphasising that without it, regardless of their commitment, they could not accomplish their mission. She pointed out that they were facing many challenges and that, with the reaching of certain standards, an even greater number of citizens were addressing the institution of Ombudsman, which was a special responsibility.

Ms Nerma Dobardžić and Ms Snežana Armenko were elected deputies to the Ombudsman at the Second Sitting of the First Ordinary Session of 25 June 2020.
