Toudic: The position of France on the opposition boycott is identical to the position of the European Union

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today received Ambassador of France to Montenegro Ms Christine Toudic.

They stated that the two states had traditionally friendly relations, whereby Ambassador Toudic emphasised the readiness of France to support further approximation of Montenegro to NATO and the European Union.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the overall reform process, political and economic situation, dynamics of the European and Euro-Atlantic path of our country, which is of great importance for the stability of the Western Balkans.

Mr Brajović stressed out that 25 states have ratifies the NATO Accession Protocol for Montenegro so far, including France, and thanked for that act as well as for the overall support that France has been providing to the European integration process.

- Montenegro has continued its democratic and reform path, improving the legislative framework and strengthening the work of institutions, by accepting the best international standards.

When it comes to rejection of the opposition to participate in the work of the Parliament, after the October parliamentary elections, President Brajović said that the Parliament of Montenegro was the only place for the dialogue, and plenary session a legitimate way of offering solutions to the citizens, who gave their trust to political parties by voting for them.

- We have, certainly, very intensive work, the committees are constantly in sessions, discussing important laws related to the overall reforms, which will position Montenegro even firmer on its path to the European Union, Mr Brajović emphasised.

Ambassador Toudic extended congratulations on the held parliamentary elections, conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, which, as she pointed out, was stated in the reports of international observers.

- The position of France is identical to the position of the European Union, which does not support the opposition boycott, Ambassador Toudic emphasised.

They jointly assessed that Montenegro is a promoter of European and Euro-Atlantic values and stable state, which has shown its democratic capacities in resolving complex issues and overcoming all previous challenges.
