Visit of the Italian senators contributes to the strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović has met in Podgorica today Chairperson of the Committee on European Union Policies Mr Vannino Chiti, senators Mr Stefano Collina and Mr Bartolomeo Amidei, as well as Deputy Director General of the DG for the European Union of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr Carlo Lo Cascio.

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović expressed pleasure with the visit of the Italian senators to the Parliament of Montenegro, emphasising that it was a great contribution to further strengthening of parliamentary cooperation between Montenegro and Italy, and sign of clear support to Montenegro’s membership of NATO and European Union. By signing the Protocol of Cooperation of the Committee on European Integration of the Parliament of Montenegro and the Committee on European Union Policies of the Italian Senate, we will have intensive and continuous exchange of information and experiences, which will significantly strengthen future parliamentary cooperation and traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Italy, Mr Brajović stressed out.

The President of the Parliament of Montenegro thanked for the support that Italy has been providing to Montenegro in meeting its foreign policy strategic goals, as well as for being an active promoter of the European Union enlargement policy with regard to the Western Balkans. He is confident that, regardless of the all national turbulences and challenges that the European Union is facing, it will keep highly on its agenda the enlargement policy, which is important for the Union credibility as well as for prosperity of the Western Balkans region.

Montenegro remains devoted to the idea of EU membership, firmly committed to pursue its reforms, in order to finalise the accession negotiations in a good manner and thus become the next member of the EU, Mr Brajović said.

The interlocutors expressed pleasure with the overall bilateral relations of Montenegro and Italy, saying that there was almost no field where successful cooperation has not been achieved, confirmed by numerous agreements signed in all fields.

They jointly assessed that today’s visit of the Italian senators to the Parliament of Montenegro and signing of the Protocol of Cooperation is a great contribution to further strengthening of interparliamentary cooperation, which will result in new, meaningful models of its improvement.

The meeting was also attended by the Italian Ambassador to Montenegro Mr Vincenzo Del Monaco, Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrian Vuksanović and Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Andrija Nikolić.
