President of the Parliament will within the Conference program have presentations on the following topics: "The importance of the parliamentary dimension of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative" and "Blue Growth in the Adriatic-Ionian macroregion-needs and opportunities".
During his participation at the XV Conference of the Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative, the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, will have several bilateral meetings, inter alia, with the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr Nikos Voutsis, and the President of the House of Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr Šefik Džaferović.
Established on 20 May 2000 in Ancona at the Summit on Development and Security, the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative has the objective of improvement, development and strengthening of security in the Adriatic-Ionian area, intensifying of cooperation among the countries in the region and providing incentives for countries in transition towards the integration process and approaching the European Union. AII is composed of eight member states: Republic of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Hellenic Republic, Republic of Croatia, Italian Republic, Republic of Slovenia, Montenegro and as a successor to the membership, Republic of Serbia.
The AII is realised through the forum for the exchange of political opinions and, at the same time, the forum for achieving multilateral cooperation in several areas (transport, maritime affairs, tourism, education, protection of the environment and cultural heritage, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, fight against all forms of organised crime, rural development).
After gaining its independence, Montenegro became a full member of the AII on 1 June 2007.
Parliamentary cooperation framework was established in 2001 in Zadar during the Croatian Presidency of the Initiative and 14 conferences of presidents of parliaments have been held since.
At the end of each conference, the adoption of joint statements, declarations, proposals and recommendations has been held as a practice, which summarise conclusions of the conference and provide guidance for further action.
