Montenegro is a factor of stability in the region

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović today has met with members of the state parliaments of Hesse and Brandenburg respectively Mr Manfred Penz and Mr Gordon Hoffman, as well as with head of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Serbia and Montenegro Mr Norbert Beckmann-Dierkes

On that occasion, President Brajović welcomed the overall interstate cooperation between Montenegro and FR Germany and emphasised the significance of having an intensive political dialogue on all levels.

The interlocutors exchanged their opinions on political topics as well, such as the current situation in Montenegro and the Western Balkans, and they noted clear commitment of our country to integration processes and regional cooperation. It was concluded that, despite its size, Montenegro represented a factor of stability in the region.

The guests from Germany deemed unusual the failure of the opposition members of the Parliament to fulfil their obligations towards the citizens who had elected them.  They also emphasised that the significant results of Montenegro in European and Euro-Atlantic integration should be promoted more intensely.

President Brajović said that one of the most significant goals was achieved in 2006 by renewing the statehood of Montenegro, and that the next step is the upcoming full membership of the NATO Alliance, which was bringing the long-term stability to the country and contributing to the security of the Western Balkans.

- The European perspective of the Western Balkans must remain among the priorities of the European Union, because the success of the enlargement policy is a basis for the long-term stability of Europe, emphasised the President of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The continuation of the pace of opening of negotiation chapters was cited as very significant, as well as the support to individual achievements and promotion of the countries individually on their path towards the European Union.
President Brajović emphasised the interest to improve parliamentary as well as economic, cultural and scientific cooperation with constituent states, in addition to developed cooperation and political dialogue at the federal level.

A significant step towards that was the recent visit to Montenegro by President of the State Parliament of Hesse Mr Norbert Kartmann.

President of the Parliament also welcomed initiatives launched so far in the field of education and the offered scholarship programmes for Montenegrin students and other types of education in which the Konrad Adenauer Foundation participated.

Through its office in Podgorica, the Foundation is successfully implementing project activities of improvement of parliamentary democracy and strengthening of institutions, support to the European integration process, and support to reforms in the area of the rule of law.
