President Brajović pointed out that by voting in favour on the NATO Accession Protocol for Montenegro in the US Senate, the US had sent another strong message to support the open door policy on NATO enlargement, which was especially significant in the context of the current security situation in Europe, as well as in the Western Balkans region.
- Montenegro’s NATO membership will have a positive effect on reform and integration processes, both in Montenegro and the neighbouring countries, because as a new member we will continue to provide support to other aspirants for NATO membership, said Mr Brajović.
The President of the Parliament voiced his gratitude for the numerous legislative initiatives of the Congress so far, promoting Montenegro’s upcoming membership of NATO. Montenegrin caucus, which is promoting Montenegro’s interests and improvement of the overall bilateral relations in the Congress, then the Friendship Group for cooperation with the US Congress, as well as the continuous visits of the US officials to Montenegro, these are just some of the examples of strong partnership of the two countries.
The discussion with congressman Nunes covered the overall activities of the Parliament of Montenegro and the expectation that the opposition would voice its political views in the Parliament. President Brajović confirmed that the discussion and vote on the Proposal for the Law on Ratification of the North-Atlantic Treaty in the Parliament of Montenegro would be on the agenda next week.
The interlocutors voiced their belief that in the upcoming period the partnership of the two countries would be additionally strengthened by the exchange of bilateral visits on the highest levels, as well as by enhancing economic cooperation in the areas of mutual concern.
