This program has been realised as a partnership by the Office of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Montenegro, the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and the European Union Delegation to Montenegro.
In his speech, the President Brajović said he was convinced that without equal participation of women and men in public and political life, there was no substantial development of any society and democracy in general.
He emphasised that steps forward in Montenegro have been visible and recalled that the 26th Convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro consisted of 19 women MPs, out of total number of 81, amounting 23.45%. This is an important improvement compared to the composition of the previous convocation, with 18.5%, 14 women MPs respectively.
President Brajović stressed that this was just another step towards achieving more significant representation of women sitting in parliamentary benches and achieving, for a start, a minimum of 30%.
President of the Parliament welcomed the organisation of programs to empower women and said that with joint work of the Parliament, institutions of the executive power, international and civil society organisations, we can continue to change Montenegro for the better in terms of women's rights, because women's rights are an integral part of the corpus of human rights.
