President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović receives US Senator Mr Ron Johnson, Chairperson of the Subcommittee for Europe

At the meeting of President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović with US Senator Mr Ron Johnson, Chairperson of the Subcommittee for Europe, it was concluded that by completing the procedure of Montenegro’s accession to NATO, a strong message had been sent that the open door policy and transatlantic cooperation remained high on the agenda of the Alliance, which was significant in the context of today’s security situation in Europe, and especially in the Western Balkans region.

President Brajović thanked for the strong support of the United States of America to Montenegrin membership in NATO, which among other things gave a strong impetus to reform processes within the European integration framework, aimed at adopting the highest democratic standards and improving the quality of life of citizens of our country.

President of the Parliament especially expressed his gratitude to Senator Johnson for his personal support for and commitment to Montenegro’s accession to NATO in the US Senate.

In the context of further development of strategic partnership between the two countries, they emphasised the need for further strengthening and enhancing of bilateral cooperation, with stress on strengthening of economic ties. They especially emphasised the need for improving dialogue between the legislative bodies of the two countries, while the interlocutors agreed in assessment that the representatives of citizens elected in democratic elections should represent and protect the interest of citizens who had given them trust in the parliament, which represents the heart of every democratic system.
