Mr Brajović: Regional cooperation a guarantee of long-term stability of the Balkans

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ivan Brajović, staying in Zagreb on the occasion of participation in the IV Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), today had bilateral meetings with President of the Republic of Croatia Ms Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Prime Minister Mr Andrej Plenković.

During the meeting with Prime Minister Plenković, they voiced pleasure over the quality of relations between the two countries and pointed out the significant potential for further development of cooperation in all fields. They especially discussed strengthening of economic cooperation while emphasising the need for improvement of traffic connection between the two countries.

President Brajović thanked Prime Minister Plenković for Croatia’s strong support for the Euro-Atlantic and European path of Montenegro which was also abundant in the expert domain.

Prime Minister Plenković congratulated President Brajović on Montenegro’s accession to NATO, pointing out that it was a great success for Montenegro, but also for the entire region, and that Croatia would continue to give it sfull support to our country on its path towards the EU integration. 

- We are glad that President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Brajović is visiting Zagreb today. I think we have reiterated that both Croatia and Montenegro want to improve relations between the two countries, both political and economic, and to improve stability of the SEE in all aspects of sectoral cooperation. Of course, I used this occasion to congratulate Mr Brajović and Montenegro once more on achieving their strategic goal, which is Montenegro’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and I am glad that now Montenegro and Croatia are allies, said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković after the meeting.

In the conversation with President Grabar-Kitarović, the interlocutors jointly assessed that relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Croatia were an example of excellent neighbourly cooperation and pointed out their pleasure over continuity of contact on all levels which gave special impetus to their further strengthening.

President Grabar-Kitarović congratulated President Brajović on Montenegro’s becoming a member of NATO and said that it was a significant step for security, not only of our country but of the entire region. She emphasised that our good political relations should be used for even better economic relations and infrastructure connection.

The President thanked for continuous support which Croatia, as well as President Grabar-Kitarović herself, had been giving to Montenegro on its path towards NATO membership as well as on our path towards the EU to which we will be be dedicated as a priority in the upcoming period.

Mr Brajović exchanged opinions with his interlocutors on other aspects of bilateral relations as well, including issues of regional and global significance in the interest of both countries.

During the day, President also met with representatives of the National Community of Montenegrins of Croatia.

President of the the Parliament of Montenegro tomorrow will have a meeting with Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Mr Gordan Jandroković, and during the SEECP plenary session he will talk on the topic “Connection - Cooperation - Communication - the way forward”.
