President Brajović pointed out that NATO membership was the greatest foreign policy success since the restoration of statehood, but also a prerequisite for unhindered economic development, stronger inflow of foreign investments, and a powerful flywheel to our integration process into the European Union.
The President of the Parliament of Montenegro thanked for the concrete and consistent support that Italy has so far provided for Montenegro on the European and Euro-Atlantic path and stressed that Italy has been the country with which we have had the most intensive cooperation, focused on the areas of justice, the rule of law, freedom and security, environment protection, agriculture and rural development.
He recalled that Montenegro was the first candidate country to which a new approach to the negotiations has been applied, implying that Chapters 23 and 24 are opened at the beginning and remain open until all other chapters were closed and expressed his belief that our country would in the process of harmonisation with the EU acquis in this area, achieve visible results in both prevention and fight against corruption. We are aware of the fact that the rule of law is a key factor for further development – Mr Brajović said.
The interlocutors pointed to the importance of the fight against corruption, which was the focus of all EU member states and assessed that effective implementation of adopted laws was crucial, both in preventing corruption and its repression.
It was jointly estimated that today's visit of the President of the National Anti-Corruption Authority of the Republic of Italy, Mr Raffaello Kantone, was a major contribution to further strengthening of cooperation in this area, which would in future result in new models of improvement of anti-corruption policies.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Montenegro as well, Mr Vincenzo Del Monaco.
