Parliamentary cooperation, with established friendship groups, represents an excellent basis for the further development of political and economic relations of the two countries, with no open issues, presidents of parliaments agreed.
President Brajović pointed out that the restoration of the statehood of Montenegro, as well as NATO membership and the process of European integration, contributed to the development of good relations in the region of Southeast Europe and beyond, expressing the view that understanding was naturally expected from traditional friends. President Brajović also welcomed the contribution of Belarus to the peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine and Nagorno-Karabakh.
President of the House of Representatives of Belarus stressed that this country, with its independent, sustainable and predictable policy on the internal and external plan, could play a role of a bridge between the East and the West. In terms of economic relations, potential in many areas has been noted, with the tourism at the very front, and an increasing number of Belarusian tourists in Montenegro. Presidents of parliaments agreed that the political and economic position of Belarus could be a good platform for the development of Montenegro's economic relations with the Eurasian Union, i.e, access to the market of 300 million inhabitants.
The OSCE PA Annual Session, being held in Minsk, as a central theme has the strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation for peace and development in the OSCE region.
The inaugural opening session of the OSCE PA was opened by Mr Aleksandr Lukashenko, Belarusian President, and the participants were welcomed by Mr Vladimir Andreichenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, and on behalf of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office, Mr Sebastian Kurz, Austrian Foreign Minister. President of the Parliament of Montenegro participates in the meetings of the Socialists Group, has envisaged numerous bilateral meetings with the officials of the OSCE PA, as well as the presentation at the OSCE PA Plenary Session.
OSCE PA on enhancing mutual trust and co-operation for peace and prosperity in the OSCE region
Special attention of the XXVI Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly that is being held in Minsk, Belarus, is dedicated to the importance of parliamentary dialogue and the confidence of the participating states with the aim of combating all forms of threats and investing efforts for actual conflicts to de-escalate. At the session that gathered more than 300 parliamentarians from the OSCE region, it was pointed out that in times of security threats, it was of the most importance to build trust among the countries and nations, and achieve peace and security on the principle of mediation and consensus.
The opening ceremony was preceded by a meeting of the Standing Committee, with verification of fifteen resolutions with a two-thirds majority, dealing with security, democracy and human rights issues, as well as economic aspects and environmental protection in the field covered by the OSCE. The budget of the Assembly for 2017/2018 was adopted unanimously. OSCE PA President, Ms Christine Muttonen and the Secretary General, Mr Roberto Montella, presented the activities of the Assembly in the past six months and on that occasion highlighted the improvement of the Parliamentary Assembly's cooperation with the executive structure of the OSCE, the Council of Europe, NATO PA and the European Parliament. Concrete initiative regarding new financial rules was also presented, aimed to improve internal financial management and ensure greater transparency and accountability.
In accordance with established practice, reports of monitoring missions during the recent parliamentary elections in Armenia, Mongolia and Albania were submitted.
At the Minsk Annual Session, besides the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, an MP Mr Nikola Rakočević is also taking part, in the capacity of an alternate member.
