President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, expressed his satisfaction with the visit of the President Radev, which represents a clear sign of political will to intensify the dialogue at the highest level and contribute to strengthening of traditionally friendly relations between Montenegro and Bulgaria.
President Radev congratulated on the membership of our country in NATO and expressed his assurance that Montenegro, as an example of integration success and stability factor in the region, with responsible membership and commitment to the key tasks of the Alliance, would encourage Euro-Atlantic integration of other Western Balkan countries as well.
Montenegro's membership in NATO is the greatest foreign-policy success since the restoration of statehood and the strongest, long-term guarantee of sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also a prerequisite for smooth economic development, President Brajović stressed. We are committed to constant fulfillment of tasks and achievement of standards that are necessary for membership in the European Union, President Brajović said and expressed confidence that during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2018, the European integration of the Western Balkans will be at the agenda of priorities, because this is very important for the long-term stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans region.
He emphasised the importance of further strengthening of parliamentary cooperation, both through the cooperation of parliamentary committees, and the friendship groups. In this context, President Brajović informed his guest that the Friendship Group with the National Assembly of Bulgaria has been recently formed in the Parliament of Montenegro, with new members of the 26th Convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro, and assessed as significant the formation of a similar group at the beginning of July 2017 in the National Assembly of Bulgaria.
It is jointly noted that between Montenegro and Bulgaria there were possibilities for improvement of bilateral cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest, with a special focus on the economic sector.
Other political issues of regional and global importance were also considered.
The meeting was attended by Vice-Presidents of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Branimir Gvozdenović and Mr Genci Nimanbegu, as well as MP Mr Tarzan Milošević, who is the Head of the Friendship Group with Bulgaria.
