Security and Defence Committee holds its Eighteenth Meeting

The Committee adopted the 2017 Performance and Status Report on administrative fields under the Ministry of Defence and 2017 Status Report on the Army of Montenegro

In the presence of the Minister of Defence and Acting Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, the Committee unanimously decided to accept the 2017 Performance and Status Report on administrative fields under the Ministry of Defence and the 2017 Status Report on the Army of Montenegro, with the following conclusions:

  1. The Committee stresses that Montenegro’s membership of NATO represents the recognition of the achieved level of reforms in defence system, whereby Montenegro has fulfilled one of its most important foreign policy priorities;
  2. The Committee notes that the Army of Montenegro reached a significant level of operational capabilities and interoperability in the reporting period, considering that the process of integration to NATO and the declaration of power for future engagement in international missions and operations is a result the significant effort that the Army invested during 2017.
  3. The Committee indicates that it is important to continue activities for further adaptation of administrative, operational and material capacities with the aim of promoting the units of the Army within the international forces;
  4. Full support was expressed to the activities aimed at overcoming challenges which had negatively affected the readiness of the Army, such as: the lack of armoured fighting vehicles for infantry units and military polygons for performing exercises of tactical units and firing with large-scale calibre weapons, destruction of surplus military equipment for which a significant number of members of the Army were engaged, the slow settlement of the housing needs of members of the Army, and the unfavourable age structure of our non-commissioned officers of the Army.
