Meeting of representatives of the Security and Defence Committee with the Serbia - Montenegro parliamentary Friendship Group

Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić and members Ms Marta Šćepanović, Mr Miodrag Vuković and Mr Boris Mugoša today have met representatives of the Serbia - Montenegro parliamentary Friendship Group, headed by Chair of the Group Mr Igor Bečić.

During the meeting, Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić expressed pleasure with the cooperation of Montenegrin and Serbian parliaments. In his address, Mr Stanišić presented the results of the Security and Defence Committee so far, reminding the guests that this working body, despite the boycott by the opposition, was fulfilling its duties within its jurisdiction. Mr Stanišić stressed that Montenegro was advancing steadily on its way to the EU, continuously improving good neighbourly cooperation, and he also spoke about achieving one of the most important foreign policy priorities - NATO membership.

Chairperson of the Serbia - Montenegro parliamentary Friendship Group Mr Igor Bečić noted that joint meetings of the relevant committees of the two parliaments planned for the upcoming period would additionally strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and serve as an example of the good cooperation in the region, determining the plan of actions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Parliament of Montenegro.

Member of the Serbia - Montenegro parliamentary Friendship Group Mr Dragomir Karić said that joint meetings of the friendship groups were exceptionally important for the work of both parliaments.

On this occasion, Mr Bečić and Mr Stanišić noted that Montenegro and Serbia had room for cooperation in field of organised crime, putting border crossings into function and irregular migration.
