Members of the Security and Defence Committee today have visited the Border Police Sector of the Ministry of Interior, touring on this occasion border crossings with Bosnia & Herzegovina (Ilino Brdo) and Republic of Croatia (Debeli brijeg).
At the meeting with Assistant Director of the Police Administration - Head Mr Vesko Damjanović and chiefs of the Border Police Sector Nikšić and Border Police Sector Herceg Novi, members of the Committee learned about current state in functioning of the said sector, with the focus on achieving and implementing priority missions and tasks, available material and technical capacities, and results achieved in the work with special reference to the past period and possible challenges.
Special attention was paid to the measures and actions for exercising supervision over the state border, as well as the issue of responding to the possible influx of migrants and refugees and the planned activities of the Border Police Sector in this regard.
The Committee expressed full support for further capacity building of the said Sector, as well as future initiatives in the context of the aforementioned and expressed readiness for support in the given sense, and within the framework of the established responsibilities.
The visit was carried out in line with Article 15 paragraph 2 of the Law on Parliamentary Oversight of Security and Defence Sector and Conclusion No 3 from the 29th Committee Meeting of 2 November 2018, when a consultative hearing was held on the topic “Border control and information sharing in the context of preventing and combating terrorism and violent extremism with special reference to the advanced passenger information system (APIS), passenger name records and collection of biometric data”.
