At today’s meeting, with the participation of the National Security Agency Director, the Security and Defence Committee learned about Agency’s activities undertaken in 2018 and about the Performance Report of the General Inspector of the National Security Agency for the same period.

Based on the 2018 Performance Report of the National Security Agency and the discussion that followed, the Committee unanimously accepted the Report and in that respect adopted the following conclusions:

  1. As regards security threats and challenges specific for the Western Balkans area, the Committee insist on the continuation of activities with the aim of further improvement of security and stability, in order to give full contribution to good neighbourly cooperation;
  2. The Committee especially appreciates the continuation of intensive monitoring of nationalism, extremism and religiously motivated terrorism, especially considering that these security challenges are phenomena that can significantly affect the legal order, independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of Montenegro and all citizens;
  3. In further preventing of activities by the organised criminal groups which, as noted, were conducted through intensive and coordinated activities of security actors at the national, regional and broader level, it is necessary to continue with full dedication and professional attention, especially given the degree of social danger and the consequences that these events carry with them;
  4. The National Security Agency, in line with its established responsibilities, independently and in cooperation with partner countries and intelligence and security concept, should continue with intensive activities regarding confronting the cyber phenomenon of unlawful action in relation to contemporary security challenges, with the emphasis on potential threats and dangers of cybercrime and its consequences. It is also necessary to continue with monitoring the migrant inflow as a growing security challenge;
  5. The Committee highly appreciates the continuation of strengthening the personnel capacities of the National Security Agency as well as further organising of specialist programmes and professional training of its staff.
