The gathering dealt with the topics such as normative and functional elements of the OSCE Code of Conduct (CoC) with special reference to its implementation, principles of cooperation among the states, and implementation of democratic oversight over the security and defence sector, as key part of the document whose implementation is significant for facing current challenges in this field.
Also, the participants shared experiences and national practices with regard to implementation of the Code of Conduct in the context of political and military developments on the international level. Furthermore, they talked about models for improving the exchange of information on the application of the Code on an annual basis, in the context of marking the 25th anniversary since its adoption.
In addition to the above, during the discussion there was presentation of examples of good practice and experiences with regard to observation of human rights in the armed forces, security sector reform, and application of international humanitarian law in the context of current security challenges.
Representatives of parliaments, bodies and institutions from the defence and security sector of member states, as well as representatives of the OSCE institutions and missions in the field, took part in the gathering.
