Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić today is staying a on an official visit to Bucharest.
On day one of the visit, Chairperson Stanišić met with Chairperson Mr Dorel-Gheorghe Căprar and members of the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania.
At the meeting they presented the experiences in the work of the two committees, with focus on implementation practices of parliamentary oversight in the field of security and defence. Furthermore, they also discussed the current political situation and security challenges at the regional and global level, and pointed out the traditionally good and friendly relations of Romania and Montenegro, with special reference to the support given to our country on its path towards the Euro-Atlantic and European integration.
They jointly highlighted the significance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy for the overall bilateral relations and voiced readiness to further promotion of cooperation of the two committees via the specific measures and activities in the upcoming period.
In continuation, there was also a meeting with members of the Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the exercise of parliamentary control over the activity of the Romanian Intelligence Service SRI.
The interlocutors exchanged experiences with regard to the implementation of parliamentary oversight over the intelligence and security sector, and pointed out the significance of deepening the cooperation in this area at bilateral level, but also within the North-Atlantic Alliance and Montenegrin path towards the full membership in the European Union.
Chairperson Stanišić also visited the Special Telecommunications Service of Romania and, within it, the Operative Centre for Cybersecurity, where he learned about their legislative framework, the manner of operation, experiences and results which the said Service achieved in its work. During the discussion, they pointed out the significance of further continuation of cooperation and exchange of best practices and experiences, both with the Security and Defence Committee and the bodies and institutions in the defence and security sectors of the two countries on the said topic.
On day one, there was also a visit to the Ministry of National Defence, within which there was a meeting with the State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations Mr Nicolae Nasta.
At the meeting they especially pointed out the significance of joint participation of Romanian and Montenegrin soldiers in international missions and operations, and the exchange of experiences through the participation in multinational military exercises, as well as other types of cooperation within the North-Atlantic Alliance. They pointed out high quality of previous cooperation in the field of defence and emphasised the significance of joint action aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the Western Balkans region.
On day two, the Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee will visit the NATO Force Integration Unit, Inspectorate of Romanian Gendarmerie, Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and will also have a meeting with members of the Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for the exercise of parliamentary control over the activity of the Romanian foreign intelligence service.
The two-day visit is implemented pursuant to the invitation by the Chairperson of the Committee on Defence, Public Order and National Security of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Mr Dorel-Gheorghe Căprar.
