Konrad Adenauer Stiftung has intensified its activities relating to the organisation of working visits of German politicians from the federal and provincial levels to Montenegro, in order to contribute to the promotion of Montenegro on its Euro-Atlantic path, and create opportunities to establish closer and more intensive cooperation between the two countries.
Members of the delegation were MPs of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) from the federal state Saxony-Anhalt and members of the Working group for federal and European affairs and media: Mr Markus Kurze, Mr Ralf Geisthardt, Mr Daniel Sturm, Mr Detlef Gürth and Mr Siegfried Borgward.
They exchanged information on the current political situation in Montenegro, the process of joining the EU and NATO and security challenges along the way, and discussed opportunities for increased cooperation between Montenegro and the province of Saxony-Anhalt.
On this occasion, Chairperson of the Committee Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić expressed his gratitude to the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung for organising the visit of German parliamentarians to the Parliament of Montenegro, stressing that it was a true expression of the friendship between the two countries. He informed members of the delegation members about responsibilities of the Committee and about the implementation of the Law on Parliamentary Oversight of Security and Defence Sector. Pointing out that Montenegro is at the doorstep of NATO, he recalled that by transforming the security sector in a short period of time Montenegro has shown that it can follow NATO standards, adding that membership of NATO and the EU is primarily a question of the democratic development of the country. In this regard, he thanked not only for declarative and verbal, but also significant financial assistance that the Federal Republic of Germany had provided to Montenegro.
Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrijan Vuksanović said that Montenegro has a stable negotiating dynamics, whit 26 out of 33 open chapters, meeting all the criteria set in this regard, while noting that by joining the EU and NATO Montenegro will be classified in the Western civilization where it belongs by its identity.
They jointly assessed that future financial support of Germany will be of great importance for the further economic development of Montenegro.
