EU is the future of the Western Balkans countries
Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Adrijan Vuksanović spoke at today’s conference on the EU and perspective of the Western Balkans countries for membership in the community of European nations. Mr Vuksanović said that European idea was deeply rooted, characterised by necessity and persistence, and that integration was a solution to every crisis both at the European and regional level. Defining the common interests of the neighbouring countries will contribute to the homogenisation of the region, while the stability of the European Union depends on the stability of the Western Balkans, the Chairperson of the parliamentary Committee on European Integration concluded.
Participants of the conference, including some MEPs, also discussed the recent Summit in Sofia, stressing that the adopted Declaration confirmed the commitment of the EU to support the integration of the entire region, as well as the willingness to strengthen the connection between the European Union and the Western Balkan countries, but also the countries themselves in the region. MEPs noted that the future of the Western Balkans countries was in the EU, and in that sense, they stressed the importance of regional stability, cooperation and good neighbourly relations.
During the two-day conference, activities of the regional states within the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme were discussed as well as multi-culturalism, and connectivity of neighbouring countries striving to similar goals.
