Committee on European Integration holds its 24th Meeting

The significance of implementing the institutional and legislative framework related to chapters 23 and 24 was highlighted, focusing on media legislation reform

At its 24th meeting held today, the Committee on European Integration held a consultative hearing of the representatives of the relevant authorities on the meeting of obligations stemming from Montenegro's process of accession to the European Union, focusing on chapters 23 and 24.

The Committee meeting was attended by : Ms Marijana Laković-Drašković, Director General of the Directorate of Justice at the Ministry of Justice and member of the Negotiating Group for chapters 23 and 24,  Mr Sreten Radonjić, Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption,  Mr Dragan Pejanović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior,  Mr Željko Rutović, Director General of the Directorate for Media at the Ministry of Culture, and Ms Blanka Radošević-Marović, Director General of the Directorate for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights.

At the meeting they discussed the challenges in the said chapters, the implementation of the legislative and institutional framework, as well as the freedom and professionalisation of the media, the results of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the level of security.

Members of the Committee on European Integration, in question form, expressed interest in cases of violence against journalists, amendments to legislation regarding media, joint cooperation between the border police of Montenegro and of the neighbouring countries and the potential influx of migrants to Montenegro.

The meeting was also attended by Mr Željko Aprcović, Chairperson of the Committee on Political System, Judiciary and Administration, and Mr Luigj Shkrela, Chairperson of the Administrative Committee.
