During the COSAC meeting in Helsinki, Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee Mr Slaven Radunović had a series of meetings with heads of parliamentary delegations from Germany, Netherlands, Slovakia, Romania and members of COSAP, discussing with them the developments on European and regional level, and the need for improving regional cooperation, but also more concrete support of the European Union to the candidate countries.
During the COSAC, the Chairperson of the Gender Equality Committee held previously arranged bilateral meeting with Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Icelandic Parliament Ms Áslaug Arna. Chairperson of the Committee Mr Slaven Radunović informed his interlocutor about new role of the Committee, regarding THE monitoring the implementation of projects in specific areas, in terms of more visible oversight of the negotiation process, especially taking into account the challenges in negotiating chapters 27 - Environment and Climate Change and 13 - Fisheries. Since Montenegro and Iceland are similar in terms of the size of the population and size of the territory, but also the tendency to maintain relations with the EU, the two chairpersons have agreed that the Icelandic experience could be very useful to our country. For that reason, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee invited the Committee delegation to visit Reykjavik, for the purpose of exchanging experience and providing expertise, which Chairperson Radunović welcomed with pleasure, taking into account the fact that Iceland had addressed the challenges in the field of environmental protection in the most efficient and financially most favourable manner.
Although they renounced membership in the EU, Iceland participated as a special guest at COSAC, expressing the desire for continued cooperation with the EU Member States, as well as the aspirants in the accession process.
