Representatives of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms take part in the conference “For the stronger voice of the child in society - Network of Golden Ombudsman Advisors”

Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms Mr Halil Duković and member of the Committee Mr Mirsad Murić took part in the conference “For the stronger voice of the child in society - Network of Golden Ombudsman Advisors”, organised by the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro.

Aside from representatives of the Parliament, representatives of the Government of Montenegro, educational institutions, international and non-governmental organisations, as well as representatives of the media also participated in the conference.

Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro Mr Šućko Baković opened the conference. He expressed satisfaction with the fact that children’s voice was to be heard at the conference, emphasising that creating of opportunities for children to freely express their opinion was very important in the life of every child.

Newly elected members of the Golden Ombudsman Advisors introduced themselves at the Conference, informing the participants on their motives for applying and their expectations as well. Twenty two of them believe that their actions will contribute to a greater degree of participation of children in all areas of social life, in order to promote and protect their basic rights and freedoms.

Head of the UNICEF Office to Montenegro Mr Osama Makavi Kogali congratulated the Ombudsman institution on recognising the importance of the participation of children in the processes related to them, and congratulated the pioneer generation of the Golden Advisors on their mission, historical efforts and efforts to respect the rights of the child. 

Deputy Protector for Children's Rights, Social Welfare and Youth Snežana Mijušković concluded the Conference with the remark that children should learn about their rights from adults, so that they themselves would be able to promote those rights in their local communities. She pointed out that besides the rights there were also obligations, and it is our duty not to threaten others with the exercise of our rights. She announced the next gathering on the occasion of International Children's Rights Day - 20th November.
