Members of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms visit the Day care centre for children with disabilities and persons with disabilities in Nikšić

Members of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms of the Montenegrin Parliament visited the Day care centre for children with disabilities and persons with disabilities in Nikšić - Sector B. Upon the invitation, the following took part in the visit: Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms and his Deputy, representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, Ministry of Health, UNICEF and NGO Federation of Associations of Parents of Children and Youth with Developmental Disabilities "Our Initiative”.

Prior to the tour of Sector B of the Day care centre, where the social protection for persons with disabilities older than 27 is provided, the participants held a meeting with Mr Veselin Grbović, President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Radivoje Lala Nikčević, President of the Local Assembly and their associates who informed them about the activities of the Municipality in respect of the protection of vulnerable groups of the population.

Mr Halil Duković, Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms of the Parliament of Montenegro, said that this was a visionary project of the Municipality of Niksić, complimenting it for that, with the assessment that the improvement of human rights without such institutions would be very difficult. He urged other day centres in Montenegro to open similar services for adults with disabilities in accordance with the possibilities in their municipalities.

Aside from the living room, the rooms for occupational and sports therapy, the participants also visited the area of Sector B and assessed that the natural environment can also positively affect the persons accommodated in this Institution. Given that Day Care for the elderly is in under the same roof, the participants also made a visit thereof and talked with the beneficiaries.
