Participation of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms delegation at the Interparliamentary committee meeting "Fundamental rights aspects of Roma inclusion and fighting anti-Gypsyism"

Delegation of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms, composed of: Mr Momčilo Martinović, Head of the delegation and members, Mr Mihailo Anđušić and Mr Mirsad Murić, will participate at the Interparliamentary committee meeting "Fundamental rights aspects of Roma inclusion and fighting anti-Gypsyism", organised by the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament.

The meeting will be held in Brussels on 18 October 2018.

The aim of the Interparliamentary Meeting of the Committee, which will be attended by members of the European Parliament and parliaments of the countries of the Western Balkans and Turkey, as well as the representatives of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR), as well as presentations from NGOs, is to promote an exchange of views on barriers to Roma inclusion and possibilities to overcome them.

The Interparliamentary Meeting will be opened by Mr Claude Moraes, Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs. The opening session will offer addresses by Ms Lívia Járóka, Vice - President of the European Parliament, Dr. Doris Wolfslehner, Head of the Department of the Federal Chancellery in the Permanent Mission of Austria to the EU and Ms Tiina Astola, Director-General for Justice and Consumers.

As part of the Session I on "Roma Inclusion and Fundamental Rights", opening remarks will be made by: Ms Soraya Post, MEP and the rapporteur of the 2017 Report on "Fundamental rights aspects in Roma integration in the EU: fighting anti-Gypsyism" and Mr Ioannis Dimitrakopoulos, Head of Equality and Citizens’ Rights Department at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. On Roma inclusion from a civil society perspective, the adress will be delivered by Mr Romani Rose, Chairman of the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma.

The Session II will cover issues of strategies on the integration of Roma and the presentation of the Study commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens' Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the LIBE Committee.

Mr Claude Cahn, representative of the United Nations Human Rights Office, will speak about lessons learnt from the implementation of the EU Roma Framework for post 2020 measures. Also, presentation of best practices of NGOs in this filed.

Members of parliaments of Sweden, Romania and Croatia will present experiences of their countries in the field of Roma inclusion, followed by the discuss by members of parliaments from other countries on challenges their countries face.

Closing session will offer summarising the results delivered by Ms Soraya Post, MEP, and Mr Claude Moraes, LIBE Committee Chair.
